A. General Context
Since 10 October 2011, an outbreak of typhoid fever has been reported in Harare City. The disease spread to other provinces.
No reports of cholera, influenza A and measles outbreaks countrywide.
B. Epidemic prone diseases
Typhoid outbreak
Since 10 October 2011, Harare City has been experiencing an outbreak of typhoid fever. The disease also spread to Bulawayo, Chitungwiza City, Mashonaland Central (Bindura district),
Mashonaland West (Zvimba and Chegutu districts), Midlands (Chirumanzu district) and Mashonaland East (Marondera) Provinces.
This week 49 cases were reported, all of which were from Chitungwiza. Five of the cases were laboratory confirmed. As of 19 August 2012, the national cumulative number of cases was 5037 and 3 deaths (CFR= 0.06%).
