AMMAN, 27 January 2013 – The UNICEF Director of Emergencies, Ted Chaiban, took part in last weeks’ United Nations mission to Syria that saw first-hand the situation of children and women affected by the on-going conflict
The OCHA-led mission aimed at getting a better understanding of the humanitarian needs of the more than 4 million people affected by the conflict. It also reviewed on-going humanitarian programmes and ways in which the UN, with various partners, can scale-up response.
Besides Damascus, Chaiban visited some of the most affected areas in the country, including Dara’a, Homs, and Talbiseh, where he met and spoke with children and families.
