Highlights
• According to the official figures reported by the Government Agency AFA on 06 Feb. 2013, the total number of Syrians registered in 15 camps in 7 provinces is 177,181 including 218 Syrians who are under medical treatment in hospitals. However unofficial numbers is estimated to be higher, as registration of spontaneous arrivals to the camps is on going process.
• Reportedly during the 24 hrs. of 05-06 Feb 2013, 1,077 Syrians were admitted from the borders which brought the total number of admission from the borders to 4,259 (5% increase since end Jan 2013) during the first week of Feb 2013. The total number of voluntary returns during the last 24 hrs. is 241 individuals.
• While the construction of the new camps is on going, the local authorities are trying their best to cope with the increase in the number of spontaneous new arrives and provide the basic humanitarian assistance to to those who are temporarily accommodated in the public places until they are transferred to the camps. The recently opened container site in Harran in Sanliurfa province has already exceeded its 50% of its 10,000 capacity.
• UNHCR Field Teams continue to work closely with the camp officials, sharing its expertise on various protection issues, as well as being present during the interviews of those who return voluntarily.
• Since the beginning of the crisis (April 2011) more than 24,000 Syrians have benefitted from the vocational and language courses in the camps and more than 674,000 medical interventions were provided to the Syrians. As of 06 Fen 2013, about 30,000 children are attending to the schools and preschool classes in the camps.
