Yaqshid District is one of the biggest districts in Benadir region, Mogadishu - Somalia. It is located 10 km North East of Mogadishu (the Capital of Somalia) with about 200,000 of host community, returnees and internally displaced people. The influx of the origin of the host community continues to arrive from different areas due to the safety and security issues caused by new evacuation of Al-Shabab. The limited health facilities in the area are overwhelmed to provide primary health services to the people in the area which prompted Health Cluster, World Health Organisation (WHO) and Ministry of Health to request MERCY Malaysia to continue their health services project in Yaqshid.
MERCY Malaysia has been operating in Towfiq, Yaqshid since January 2012 together with a local NGO, Adan Abdulle Foundation (AAF) for the Health Centre (HC) in providing Primary Health Care (PHC) as well as hygiene promotion, child immunisation and health education in addition to the referral system for complicated cases to Hospitals in Banadir region.
