Population Services International, an NGO (Non-Government Organisation) dealing with reproductive health, has received two point four (2.4) million condoms to be distributed to the public.
PSI Deputy Country director, Jayson Walton, told Radio Miraya that, the condoms are already in the country and will be handed out to the public free of charge through health facilities, as a way of reducing HIV infection rates.
"We provide health services and commodities to the communities in South Sudan, so particularly focus on malaria, runny stomachs, hand washing, water treatment and HIV aids. We provide social markedly condoms which is the number one condom and generic condom which are freely distributed. We were out for the last one week and we've just received 2.4 million generic condoms that are ready for distribution. So we will be reaching out to our partners to ensure that all the condoms they need are provided.
Recent media reports had said government health facilities and HIV/AIDS projects had run out of condoms.
