Afghanistan: DEWS Weekly Epidemiological Report WER-14 (7th Yr) April 8, 2013

SUMMARY:

  • This report includes surveillance data from 30th March to 5 th April 2013.

  • Out of 347 functional Sentinel sites (SS), all 347 (100%) have sent their reports in Week-14 of 2013.

  • Out of total 324,079 consultations (138,159 Male, 185,920 Female) recorded in week-14 of 2013, 101,625 (48,593 Male, 53,032 Female) consultations were reported due to DEWS target diseases.

  • Main causes of consultations this week are Acute Respiratory Infections/ARI (23.4%) and Acute Diarrheal Diseases/ADD (7.2%) from total clients in a continuing trend from the week before.

  • 27 (17 Male, 10 Female) deaths caused due to Pneumonia, Diarrheal diseases and Meningitis/Severely ill children, so that 17 (9 Male, 8 Female) deaths due to pneumonia, 2 (2 Male, 0 Female) deaths due to diarrheal diseases and 8 (6 Male, 2 Female) deaths reported due to Meningitis and Severely Ill Children.

  • In this reporting week, Suspected Rabies Outbreak reported from Kham roba villages of Kohistan 2 district of Kapesai province , Suspected SARI outbreak reported from Allasay district of Kapesa province, Suspected pertussis Outbreak reported from Chatak village of Wazakhwa district , Paktika province, Suspected Measles Outbreak reported from Sayed village of Center of Bamyan district , Bamyan province, Suspected Measles Outbreak reported from Wazmi village of Shahresfa district , Zabul province and Suspected food poisoning Outbreak reported from center of Zinda jan district of Herat province.
