The humanitarian crisis in the Central African Republic (CAR) is dire as widespread violence continues and access for humanitarian actors remains precarious.
The security situation has shown some improvement though looting and violence continues to be widespread in the capital and in the interior of the country. In Bangui, fewer incidents have been reported but NGOs continue to be targeted.
Under-Secretary-General for Political Affairs, Jeffrey Feltman, met with CAR Prime Minister Nicolas Tiangaye and visited Bangui on 22 April to assess the situation on the ground.
UNICEF is continuing to distribute live-saving supplies where possible including a distribution of remaining medical supplies to MSF on 20 April which will enable resumption of limited medical services in some of the affected regions.
UNICEF is providing emergency health, nutrition, protection, and water/sanitation support to the affected population in partnership with INGOs present on the ground.
UNICEF expresses concern for completion of the school year as most schools remain closed across the country.
