ALABANG, Muntinlupa, Sept 8 (PIA) -- The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DWSD), through its Field Office IV-A, asserted the importance of camp management in evacuation centers in the CALABARZON Region.
In a full-council meeting of the Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC), DSWD Regional Director Wilma Naviamos called for the daily presence of concerned agencies including the Office of Civil Defense, Philippine National Police (PNP), Department of Health (DOH), Philippine Red Cross and provincial DRRMC in evacuation centers all over the region.
Naviamos said all agencies can share responsibilities in providing for the needs of displaced families, especially in big evacuation centers in Laguna and Rizal while the PNP will work to maintain the peace and order inside the evacuation centers as well as the security of the evacuees.
DOH will ensure good health among families through health education and deployment of doctors and nurses in evacuation centers.
The DSWD, on the other hand, is continuously identifying the needs of the families and answering them through the distribution of relief goods and provision of trainings and work for evacuees in exchange for food or cash.
Currently, there are 26,890 displaced families living inside 365 evacuation centers from the provinces of Laguna and Rizal.
Besides camp management, the RDRRMC inter-agency meeting focused on the partnership of all agencies in preparing a recovery and rehabilitation plan for affected families and areas as well as prevention and mitigation of damages in events of future disasters. (DSWD4A/CPG, PIA4A)
