Highlights

  • Every Saturday and Wednesday, nearly 50,000 children in Aden Governorate in the south, are denied access to their schools. The pro-separatist movement known as Al-Hirak has called for ‘civil disobedience’ in the governorate to draw attention to their demands. Through this, many schools are forced to close, while staff and students risk attack or intimidation.

  • A rapid return system will soon be established for migrants in Haradh in the north including the 77 children currently hosted at the International Organization for Migration (IOM) shelter, the military camp and the child protection centre. This follows a visit in April by IOM, UNICEF and the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator/Resident Coordinator, to assess the humanitarian condition of migrants and to find urgent solutions for their return.

  • A mobile team has been deployed for the first time in Shabwa Governorate in the east of the country, to serve children affected by severe acute malnutrition (SAM) in one of the most affected districts.
