Sudan (the): Yellow Fever Outbreak in Darfur, Sudan - Situation Report No 8, 21 November 2012

Highlights

  • Yellow fever vaccination campaign started in Geneina, West Darfur on 20 November while other affected areas have scheduled to start campaign either on 22 or 24 November 2012.

  • The outbreak has now affected 29 localities in Central, South, West, North, and East Darfur. As of 20 November, the total number of cases has reached 497, including 124 deaths (case fatality rate of 24.9%).

  • WHO/FMoH support missions are on ground in Darfur investigating the spread of the outbreak to new localities in West, South, Central and North Darfur.

  • Sudan’s Federal Ministry of Health (FMoH) has received 2.4 million doses of yellow fever vaccine with injection materials from the International Coordinating Group on Vaccine (ICG) to conduct an emergency response vaccination campaign in Darfur.
